The many looks of Lady Gaga (promise – no meat dress pictures shown)…

Hey guys, sorry, I’ve been busy all week and haven’t been able to post. I’m super busy today too … but I did want to post something. So, here it goes …

I love Lady Gaga’s style. Her music – sometimes isn’t my favorite – it’s a bit to poppy. But her looks – love them. Their creative, thought-provoking and inspiring. I’d love to wear some of them – except, where would I wear them? Kai’s soccer game tomorrow? Prob not. ha!

Do you like her? Do you like her style? Do you like her music?

I’m running a 5K tomorrow – OMG – what have I gotten myself into? …

My company, Bonnier Corp., is putting on a 5K tomorrow and I signed up to do it. Gulp! I decided to run it 2.5 weeks ago. I thought I’d be like Nike and Just Do It! Now, I feel that I am physically fit. I workout 2-4 times a week on my lunch break.

So, instead of taking my regular class on my lunch break I decided to run the treadmill to see if I could physically run the 3.16 miles. And I did. No sweat (well, I did technically sweat, but you know what I mean.)

But the problem is: I’ve never run outside before. I mean I was a kid I ran on the track during gym, but that’s the extent of it. So tomorrow is going to be a whole new experience for me. Wish me luck – I plan on running the whole thing!

Have you ever run a 5K before? Any tips? I’m going to need them.

Fashion icon Gwen Stefani …

Yesterday’s post about Japan’s harajuku fashions made me think of Gwen Stefani, who I adore. Ever since “I’m just a girl” was released, I’ve been in awe. I love her punk, rebellious attitude of the 90’s and her glamourous, sophisticated, mothering and eclectic style of today.

I scoured the web and found an array of her styles and love that she can pull them all off effortlessly.

Which is your fave Gwen style? Personally, I love her rocker style.

Retro bathing suits …

It’s the time of year for all of the bathing suits to be on sale – 70% off baby!

I tried some on this past weekend, with no avail.

But although, I don’t think I could pull off one of these retro swimsuits, I still adore them. Don’t you?

Picture day …

Today is supposed to be Natural Living Wednesday, but I’m not inspired. So instead, I’ll show you some random photos of my family and friends.

Ode to Twiggy …

For those of you who have been reading my blog for a while, you must know by now that I am crazy about mod – fashion, furniture, colors and design. To me, it represents a time when the world was reinventing itself (society, culture, design) into the modern age. I love the innocence and playfulness of it all. And Twiggy emulates everything about that time. I love her. I love her style, her hair, her eyelashes. Don’t you?

What’s your favorite era?

A girl with kaleidoscope eyes …

I have to admit, I was a little stumped on what I should post today and then it hit me – artist Jen Stark!!! She’s one of my favorite artists today. She has been Miami’s darling for the last few years (look through the pictures below and you’ll see why).

I was fortunate to interview her a few years ago for Florida Travel + Life magazine and she was so nice. She said she was inspired by her sister’s medical text books (she was studying to be a doctor).

I’m so crazy about her work. I love the colors and the shapes and the ingenuity of it all. Don’t you?

DIY: Necklace Knockoff #2 …

Okay, so I think I got my necklace making-kick out of my system. This is my second necklace knock off this week and I think it turned out pretty awesome.

Check out the first necklace knockoff here.

At lunch yesterday, I went to the same specialty fabric store where I got the thread for the other necklace and picked up some yellow and gray buttons. (I love the store because there are hundreds – maybe thousands of different styles of buttons that you could choose from.) Each of these cost between $.20 and $.55 each.

All I did was thread them together with some silver wire. I rethread some of the buttons two or three times so they were sturdy and I connected them to a random silver chain that I found in my couch years ago that nobody claimed.

It’s not as neat as the one that I knocked off, but I think it turned out pretty awesome, especially since I’m not used to working with wire. Plus, it only took me about 15 minutes to complete.

HERE IS THE ORIGINAL NECKLACE (I found the pic online.)

HERE IS MY REPLICA (ps. I’m wearing it today.)

How I experience my own Eat, Pray, Love (daily)…

Sometimes you don’t have to travel to go experience life. Sometimes, you just need to be where you are – “in the present.”

That’s where I am right now. I don’t travel as much as I used to – and at times I miss it a lot. But a trip here and there gets me out of Orlando and helps me experience new things – but I keep having to remind my self – that it’s the present moment that is where the experience is. You don’t need to go far to find yourself.

This week, I’ve been indulging on mint chocolate chip ice cream. I bought a tub for Kai’s birthday party that we didn’t use. So, I’ve been digging in and enjoying every spoonful. Sure, it’s extra calories, but I work out at least three times a week, so if I indulge like this every so often, so be it.

We eat so healthy all the time, that an occasional indulgence is a GREAT thing!

My other food indulgences:
1. Hummus – okay, it’s still healthy, but it does have a lot of fat and the winter for 2008-2009, I gained 7 pounds from eating so much of it. For real!
2. Gum drops
3. Pizza
4. Key lime pie
5. Lobster ravioli in cream sauce

My spirituality is my everything – my lifestyle. I believe in karma. I believe in energy. I believe in living in the moment. I believe in love. I try hard to incorporate this into my every moment. I try to be honest and sincere and encouraging to others. I pray daily and I give thanks at then end of each of my Ashtanga yoga practices or when I’m in my backyard or swimming in a spring or pool. I give thanks throughout the day.

I believe that you have a purpose in life and that things may not happen that you really want to happen for two reasons: 1. to remind you to be grateful for what you do have and what you have accomplished 2. because that isn’t where you needed to be to fulfill your purpose.

I’m in love with my husband, Alex. We met when I was 19 and he taught me to be me and encouraged me to live my own life and go after my own passions. When I first met him, I didn’t really know myself. He helped me gain the confidence within myself to grow and explore. When I was scared, he pushed me and encourage me to go further. I did the same for him. I’m so thankful for him. We grew up together and became two pillars holding up our family, rather than one pillar, which isn’t as stable.

How do you experience EAT, PRAY, LOVE in your daily life? Please share.

Operation Beautiful …

On the Today Show this morning, there was a woman who was promoting her website Operation Beautiful. It inspired me.

The whole premise of her site is that she and her readers leave post it notes in public bathrooms and around town that say positive messages to woman – such as, “You are beautiful.” “Look at you, you’re a vision.” “This is not a trick mirror, you are this beautiful.”

After watching it, I decided to write one and post it in the large, handicap bathroom in my office. I wrote the latter saying above. I would have taken a picture of it, but I don’t have my camera and my phone is old school and doesn’t have the camera feature.

This afternoon my friend and I are planning a stealth mission to go to the grocery store and leave notes like this at the diet, slim fast aisle. So fun and positive.

Spread the positivity and post at least one message this weekend.
